THE ARCHDIOCESE OF KINGSTON, ONTARIO
(Ontario)
and
THE ARCHDIOCESE OF KINGSTON JAMAICA
(West Indies)
ARE TWINNED

The Roman Catholic
Archdiocese
Kingston, Jamaica
(Latin: Archidioecesis
Regio-politanus in Iamaica) is an archdiocese of the Latin rite of the
Roman Catholic Church in the Caribbean. The Archdiocese encompasses the
larger portion of the island of Jamaica, and the capital of Kingston.
The archdiocese is the metropolitan archdiocese for three suffragan
dioceses: Belize City-Belmopan, Mandeville, and Montego Bay, as well as
the Mission Sui Iuris of Cayman Islands. The archdiocese and its
suffragan dioceses are members of the Antilles Episcopal Conference.
Originally erected as
the Vicariate Apostolic of Jamaica in 1837, the Vicariate was elevated
to the Diocese of Kingston encompassing all of Jamaica in 1956. After
the Diocese of Montego Bay was split from the Diocese of Kingston, it
was elevated to the Archdiocese of Kingston in Jamaica on 14 September
1967.
The Archdiocese is
currently led by Most
Rev. Donald James Reece.

Pictured
above are Archbishop Brendan
O’Brien and Archbishop Donald
Reece just moments after they signed
an historic Twinning Covenant
between their two Kingston
Archdioceses. The signing took place
during a special Mass that was
celebrated on March 16th
at Stella Maris Church in
Kingston
,
Jamaica.
.
In attendance were over 40
students and staff from Holy Cross
C.S.S., Regiopolis-Notre Dame
C.H.S.
and
Nicholson
Catholic
College
as well as many clergy, religious
and laity from the Archdiocese of
Kingston, Jamaica. The joyful
celebration was just one of many
highlights from the recent school
Mission Trips that saw our young
students and their adult chaperones
volunteer at various schools,
hospitals and other groups sponsored
by St. Patrick’s Foundation in
Kingston
,
Jamaica
.
We were also able to
experience first hand the effects of
a severe water shortage that has
been affecting many areas of
Jamaica
over the past few months. And,
we also witnessed the inspiring
faith and love of our brothers and
sisters who opened their hearts and
their homes to us throughout our
time in
Jamaica
We are all looking forward
to sharing our stories with fellow
students, staff and parishioners.
And, we are also looking forward to
exploring new ways of strengthening
the partnerships and friendships
that we developed with the people of
Kingston
,
Jamaica
.

Pancake Breakfast
One outcome of this year’s K2K Jamaica Mission Trip is that
Holy Cross will be raising money during Lent to build a house in
Kingston
,
Jamaica.
During their recent Mission Trip to
Jamaica
, students visited "Food for the Poor," a Catholic
foundation based in
Jamaica,
which builds up to 1700 houses each year for underprivileged
families.
By raising $5700.00, during Lent, Holy Cross will
be able to build a house for a family at one of the St. Patrick'
Foundation projects that the
Mission
group works at on each of our trips.
The first event in this
year's campaign was a Pancake Breakfast held on March 8th which
raised over $1000.00.
Pictured above are some of the CICS and
Student Council volunteers who helped make this year's Pancake
Breakfast such a great success.
