OFFICE OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION

Margie Ann McKinnon
Coordinator

Margie Ann grew up in New Brunswick, attended Teachers' College in Ottawa and received a B.A. in Religious Studies from Ottawa University. She also received a Masters in Religious Education from Toronto School of Theology.

She has had experience as a teacher in the Kingston area, a hospital chaplain in Chicago and a Religious Education Consultant for the Catholic School Board in Smiths Falls. She is past president of Catholic Religious Education Consultants of Ontario and she is also past president of the Catholic Women's League in Smiths Falls.

The Coordinator of the Office of Religious Education, Margie Ann McKinnon, is responsible for areas relating to faith development. A network of committees assists in the implementation of a variety of tasks and responsibilities.

 

Mandate of the Office of Religious Education

Religious Education is part of the teaching ministry of the Church.  In collaboration with the Bishop, the office provides resources to support all forms of religious education in the archdiocese.  The Office also serves as a communication centre, connecting people with needs and resources as well as disseminating information about programs in different areas.

Long-term Goals

  1. to develop an attitude in people of the Archdiocese whereby religious education is seen to be a life-long process;
  2. to provide education, formation, and support for the faith development of the people of the Archdiocese of Kingston;
  3. to provide leadership training to prepare people for specific ministries.

Responsibilities

The Office of Religious Education offers ministry training for volunteers in Pastoral Care and Prison Ministry, facilitates Lay Faith Development through deanery resource teams, promotes the Diploma in Ministry from St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, N.S., and Coordinates the Religious Education in Catholic Schools Course that is offered at Queen's Faculty of Education.

The Coordinator of Religious Education collaborates with the Education of Priests Committee to offer continuing education workshops for clergy.

The Coordinator facilitates diocesan meetings with various groups:  Adult Education Commission, Religious Education Consultants, High School Chaplains, Prison Chaplains and Inter-Faith Leaders.
