LAY FAITH DEVELOPMENT

COORDINATORS:
Margie Ann McKinnon
Monique Marchand

What are Lay Faith Deanery Resource Teams?

  • Lay Faith Development is an undertaking born of the Pastoral Vision. In the process of implementing a faith development process, many consultations occurred both at the deanery and Archdiocesan level. Some particular comments came up time and again at these consultations:
  • People would prefer to have activities and formation within their own deaneries, as opposed to always having to go to Kingston.
  • Parishes would like the ability to communicate and share with each other.
  • There are few opportunities for lay people to get involved directly in planning and networking and helping with faith development.
  • Therefore, part of the proposal for Lay Faith Development involves developing teams of lay volunteers at the deanery level, the purpose of which will be to:
  • enable networking and sharing between parishes; enhance the ability of individuals within deaneries to exchange ideas with other deaneries;
  • empower lay volunteers at the deanery level to decide on activities, workshops or seminars that could take place at the deanery and parish level;
  • enhance communication between the deaneries and the Archdiocese.
  • Pastors have been asked to submit the name of one or two candidates from their parishes to take part, and in a collaborative spirit, we are working towards at least one member from each parish taking part on these Deanery Resource Teams.
  • Members do not need any special skills or particular training only that they:
  • have some interest in Lay Faith Development;
  • be willing to share ideas and/or give input at meetings;
  • be willing to assist, according to their comfort level and gifts, in projects the team wishes to undertake;
  • act as a link to and from their parish, sharing ideas, feedback and concerns.
